Out there in the shadow of the modern machine

The beauty of sleeping for 12 hours in one night lies within the concept. Wow, that sounds restful. Peaceful. Worthy of envy. Who has that kind of time anymore?
For an active imagination, a lot of ugliness accompanies the action of sleeping that long. The amount of dreaming - with its vivid qualities bordering on near-tangibility - plays tricks on a weak mind. The time spent subject to the whims of the subconscious makes the dream hard to shake in reality. Draws a blurry line between factual and fictional experience. I don't know which I prefer upon first examination.
I guess that's why they have pills for this crap. But I think I'd also like to DVR my brain. At least we'd have something entertaining to watch when we got high.
