I'll surely get the good assignments now

I went into my boss's office yesterday to follow up on the April Fool's Day prank, and he was livid. Not at me. At the man who was sending him all of the mean-spirited e-mails that made fun of his cub reporter.

"This guy...is...the biggest dick," Sean told me when I asked if there had been a response to my phone call to the man.

I agreed that the guy sending the e-mails was the biggest dick, and that I knew him personally. He was me.

This took my boss a second or two to catch, so I told him it was an April Fool's Day joke. He couldn't believe he had printed off the e-mails and had been asking other editors and reporters how to respond to this crotchety old man, and it had all been a prank the whole time.

Sean even tried to make sure I didn't hear what the e-mail guy was writing about me because it was just hateful stuff. My boss left a message on my home machine -- which he thought belonged to the e-mailer -- in an "angry" voice.

I'm chalking this one up in the win column.
