Jumper

Given there was a movie last month by this name, it seemed appropriate. However, it is no less irreverent.

A man threatened to commit suicide today on our Jackson Street bridge. The bridge is less than a minute by car from both the newspaper and the TV station. So we went.

You might be inclined to think that the man just wanted some seemingly much-needed attention. However, he had been in an institute recently -- the nature of which we can't know due to HIPAA.

Twist: He left his Bible when he walked away from the institution. At mention of recovering it, however, he came back over the railing.

where did all the "idiot" retorts come from? If TT's policy is to allow comments, lighten up on the book-burning--I mean censorship. (should that have an "e" in there somewhere).

while we're on this topic. the movie was crap. i can't believe you wasted the keystrokes to reference it. this poor man's plight however is real. we have prisons full of people who are more in need of mental healthcare than incarceration. it would be interesting to find out what is to become of mr. thompson. do we lock him up because he's scary? do we treat him and try to reintegrate him into productive society? do we give up and ascribe him to the rolls of the disabled?

i'm betting he's good at something. everyone is.
