Sometimes I wake up and I just want to run away from you

Amy has got to get this night shift. It's still the only spot open as of now, but the head of her department is playing her cards close to the vest apparently.

Amy's "three-week" sentence in surgery ended yesterday, and Brenda -- the department head -- still hasn't given my wife any indication of what shift she'll be working. Brenda's best friend or niece or something must be on vacation, so she has to wait until they can have their pick before she makes any decisions.

Meanwhile, this separate shift thing makes it really hard for us to sleep. I try to creep on in so I won't wake her -- but I end up doing it anyway. I can't go straight to bed, so I'll come in the living room/dining room/kitchen and watch TV.

The last couple of nights, however, I have fallen asleep on the couch for a couple of hours. And we don't have one of those couches you can sleep on.

Once I get in bed, Amy's all over it. It takes about half an hour to truly annex my side -- it's like the Dutch taking back land from the sea. Then at 6 a.m., she turns on all of the lights, the radio, the blender and then makes sure to wake me before she goes...goes.

We're fine.
